FM 1 -
The Army
The Army serves the Nation. We defend America’s
Constitution and our way of life. We protect America’s
security and our Nation’s interests. We answer the
Nation’s call to serve whenever and wherever required.
We must prepare for decisive action in all operations.
But above all, we are ready to fight and win the Nation’s
wars—our nonnegotiable contract with the American
people. The Army is, and will remain, the preeminent land
warfighting force in the world. We serve as the ultimate
guarantor of our way of life. |
FM 3-0
- Operations
Army forces are the decisive component of land warfare
in joint and multinational operations. Army forces aggressively
gain the initiative, build and maintain momentum, and exploit
success to control the nature, scope, and tempo of full
spectrum operations in war and military operations other
than war. Execution of this doctrine requires well-trained
soldiers and units fueled with the warrior ethos, the best
weapons and equipment available, and the solid leadership
ofofficers and noncommissioned officers of character and
competence.
FM 3-0 establishes the Army’s keystone doctrine
for full spectrum operations. The doctrine holds warfighting
as the Army’s primary focus and recognizes that the
ability of Army forces to dominate land warfare also provides
the ability to dominate any situation in military operations
other than war. The foundation of FM 3-0 is built upon
global strategic responsiveness for prompt, sustained Army
force operations on land as a member of a joint or multinational
force. |

- Force Integration
This manual provides the Army’s force
integration capstone doctrine for use by those who plan,
program, and manage the introduction and resourcing of changes
to the Army’s structure and composition. It is anequally
valuable reference for commanders and leaders who execute
the changes. These changes are caused by the Army’s
adoption of new or revised doctrine, organizations, manpower,
andequipment. The effects of change may impact any or all
echelons from Headquarters, Department of the Army,to the
installation and unit levels. Changes permeate each component
of the Army (Active, Reserve and National Guard). The force
integration process minimizes adverse effects on the readiness
of Army units and componentcommands while changes are implemented.
As a result, the Army remains prepared to perform all of
its mis-sions promptly and decisively. These missions range
across the spectrum of crisis from humanitarian opera-tions,
through military operations other than war, to fighting
and winning the Nation’s wars.FM 100-5 describes
the Army’s doctrinal principles for employing forces
to accomplish assigned missionson this spectrum. FM 100-11
discusses how the Army builds and maintains the force projection
capabilitiesrequired to execute these operations. |
